The knee airbag protected the driver's knees and femurs in the frontal test. Toyota presented information to Euro NCAP that showed that the airbag would also protect occupants of different sizes sat in a variety of driving positions.
The Auris scored maximum points in the side impact and pole tests.
The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. Information regarding the status of the airbag is provided only in English so the system was not rewarded by Euro NCAP. The presence of ISOFIX and top-tether anchorages was not suficiently well marked.
The protection offered to pedestrians' legs by the bumper was rated as predominantly 'fair', as was the adult head protection provided by the bonnet. However, the front edge of the bonnet scored no points.
