SRA receives EC accolade for dedication to safety awareness

Euro NCAP would like to congratulate one of its most active members, the Swedish Road Administration (SRA) on the achievement of an award in this year’s e-Safety Forum Awards “Saving Lives”. SRA’s dedicated work towards the inclusion of ESC as part of Euro NCAP’s New Rating Scheme in 2009 was recognized by the Forum.

The award in the Policy and Administration Category was presented to SRA by Ms. Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner responsible for the Information Society and Media. Awarded to SRA for its ‘innovative and effective initiatives in the deployment of safety systems in Sweden and for setting a best practice example for Europe’, the team was particularly praised for its achievement in spreading awareness of Electronic Stability Control. Today, 97% of all new cars sold in Sweden have an ESC system.

Dr Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP says “This award reflects SRA’s long-standing dedication to safety. It is well deserved. We also appreciate SRA’s tireless commitment to Euro NCAP and overall contribution to achieving safer cars.”

Professor Claes Tingvall of SRA is Euro NCAP’s Chairman.

Euro NCAP’s test results are released on a quarterly basis. Our next set of results will be released on 26th November 2006. Keep checking our website for details.

Euro NCAP’s New Rating Scheme will be introduced from 2009.
